No matter how much work is put into your 1949-1951 Ford Pickup, if your engine won't start it doesn't mean much. No more broken springs. 1932-1953 engines were equipped with a starter support bracket (51A-11140). This bracket is usually missing, but it is highly recommended that it be used to support the starter on the oil pan. For 49-50 Mercury & 49-53 Pick Up with cast iron bell housing you may have problems fitting the modern style starter drive past the flywheel. If you encounter this problem, we recommend that you replace the modern drive with an original style starter drive.

Please note, on some installations of this unit, the modern style Bendix starter drive may make installation of the starter motor difficult. If that is the case, we suggest you use your old Bendix starter drive.
