An Alberta Treasure: The 1935 International C
By Claudio D'Andrea
If old International trucks are your passion, Lethbridge, Alberta is your city and the Kirkham International Motor Truck Collection is your place.
Run by George Kirkham, who started restoring old Internationals in the 1980s and has added more than 60 to his collection, the collection puts the capital V in vintage. Kirkham, an International truck restorer and historian, had more than 30 years experience as an International truck dealer and is an active member of the International Harvester Collectors Club and American Truck Historical Society.
Many of the 60 cars in his collection were restored by him personally. Also, Internationals run in the family: his father George Kirkham Sr. worked for International Harvester Truck Company for 40 years and George Kirkham Jr. owned his dealership for more than 30 years.
Among the trucks in his collection was a 1935 C-1 1/2 ton. The Kirkham Collection Trucks website includes archival photos of the truck from its earliest days when it worked the farm and during its restoration.
The photos include the 213 cubic inch International engine that was rebuilt and restored wheel brakes. There is also a photo of Kirkham purchasing the truck from Rod Kindt and a "Lubrication Chart" for the truck.
In a Driving.ca profile on him on March 2, 2026, Kirkham explains his passion for Internationals and how he built his business.
“There’s a strong family connection to International, and I enjoy restoring the trucks,” he said.
