Instructions:
- Open the tailgate and remove the old weatherstrip: pry out any clips and peel away adhesive residue.
- Clean the mounting channel and surrounding paint with isopropyl alcohol; ensure area is dry and free of grease or old adhesive.
- Test-fit the new seal along the tailgate to verify orientation and length. Trim excess with a utility knife or scissors if necessary.
- If adhesive is required, apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive into the channel per the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
- Starting at one end, press the new weatherstrip into the channel, working along the length to seat the seal fully. Use masking tape to hold corners or ends in place while adhesive sets, if used.
- Pay special attention to corners and latch areas to ensure the seal compresses properly without folding or stretching.
- Close the tailgate and check for even compression and seal contact; adjust as needed.
- Allow any adhesive to cure fully before exposing to water or heavy use (follow adhesive cure times).
