Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, chock rear wheels, and loosen front lug nuts if wheels must be removed.
- Raise front of vehicle and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel if it improves access.
- Locate the idler arm on the passenger side of the frame steering linkage and apply penetrating oil to mounting hardware.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the nut securing the idler arm stud to the center link using an appropriate wrench or socket.
- Use a ball joint/idler arm puller or tie rod separator to disengage the idler arm stud from the center link. Do not use a hammer to strike the stud.
- Unbolt the idler arm mounting bolts from the frame. Keep track of any mounting brackets or shims for reinstallation.
- Compare new idler arm to the old unit to confirm correct orientation and length. Install the new idler arm onto the frame, securing bolts snugly but not fully torqued.
- Insert the idler arm stud into the center link, install the nut and tighten to the manufacturer-recommended torque. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Torque the frame mounting bolts to specification and recheck all fasteners for proper tightness.
- If equipped with a grease fitting, apply a few pumps of multi-purpose chassis grease. Lower vehicle, reinstall wheel, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Perform a visual check and a short test drive to confirm steering feels solid and there is no excessive play. If necessary, have steering alignment checked by a professional.
