Front upper ball joint for 1960-1972 Chevrolet and GMC trucks, engineered to restore proper steering geometry and suspension control. This right/left hand service part secures the upper control arm to the steering knuckle, providing smooth pivoting action while resisting wear and play. Designed for durability and reliable performance during daily driving or restoration projects, it helps reduce vibration, improve tire wear, and maintain safe handling. Easy to install as a direct replacement for worn or damaged factory ball joints.

  • Ball joint press or C-clamp and adapters
  • Hammer and punch
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level surface, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle with a jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to ball joint fasteners and allow to soak if corroded.
  4. Remove cotter pin and castle nut (if equipped) from the ball joint stud at the steering knuckle.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or a hammer and punch, taking care not to damage the knuckle.
  6. Support the lower control arm and remove any retaining bolts or rivets holding the upper ball joint to the control arm. If rivets are present, drill them out carefully and remove.
  7. Use a ball joint press to press out the old upper ball joint from the control arm. Clean the bore of the control arm before installing the new part.
  8. Press the new ball joint into place until fully seated, following press tool instructions and orienting the stud correctly for right or left hand application.
  9. Reinstall retaining hardware using new bolts or rivets as required and torque to manufacturer specifications.
  10. Reattach the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle and install the castle nut; torque to spec and insert a new cotter pin if applicable.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to the proper specification.
  12. After installation, have the vehicle alignment checked and adjusted as necessary.
