Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end connecting the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod or steering arm.
- Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the threaded shaft with a marker or count the turns when removing to preserve alignment.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and back off the castle nut securing the tie rod end stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork and hammer to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid damaging the boot if reusing other components.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and unscrew the old outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod, counting turns or matching the marked position.
- Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position/number of turns as the old part, then tighten the jam nut to secure.
- Insert the new tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's torque specification, and install a new cotter pin if required.
- If equipped with a grease fitting, apply grease until boot is slightly distended. If sealed, ensure the boot is intact.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
- Have a qualified shop perform a front-end alignment to ensure proper toe and prevent uneven tire wear.
