Premium replacement tie rod end designed for 1966 Ford and Mercury models to restore steering precision and safety. This right/left-hand unit secures the steering linkage to the steering knuckle, providing reliable ball-and-socket articulation that maintains proper toe alignment and reduces play. Built from high-strength materials with corrosion-resistant finishes and a durable greaseable stud or sealed joint option, it delivers long-lasting performance for restoration projects and routine maintenance. Easy to install with basic tools, this tie rod end helps eliminate steering wander, uneven tire wear, and improves handling confidence on classic vehicles.
Features:
  • Fits 1966 Ford and Mercury models (right or left hand tie rod end application).
  • High-strength steel construction for durability and safe steering linkage connection.
  • Precision-machined ball stud and tapered shank for secure fit and accurate alignment.
  • Corrosion-resistant coating and grease fitting or sealed boot for extended life.
  • Restoration-grade replacement to reduce steering play, vibration, and uneven tire wear.
  • Straightforward installation for mechanics and DIY restorers with basic tools.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Wrenches/sockets (commonly 17mm-24mm depending on vehicle)
  • Torque wrench
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Hammer
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Grease gun (if greaseable)
  • Marker or paint pen
Instructions:
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the outer tie rod end connecting the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod or steering arm.
  4. Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the threaded shaft with a marker or count the turns when removing to preserve alignment.
  5. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and back off the castle nut securing the tie rod end stud.
  6. Use a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork and hammer to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid damaging the boot if reusing other components.
  7. Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and unscrew the old outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod, counting turns or matching the marked position.
  8. Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position/number of turns as the old part, then tighten the jam nut to secure.
  9. Insert the new tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's torque specification, and install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. If equipped with a grease fitting, apply grease until boot is slightly distended. If sealed, ensure the boot is intact.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
  12. Have a qualified shop perform a front-end alignment to ensure proper toe and prevent uneven tire wear.
