Inner tie rod end (left-hand) designed for 1971–1996 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. This replacement component secures the inner steering linkage to the steering rack, maintaining precise steering geometry and safe vehicle control. Built for durability and reliable fit in restoration and maintenance projects, it restores proper steering response, reduces play, and prevents premature wear of outer tie rod components. Ideal for technicians and DIYers performing steering system repairs or full front-end restorations.
Features:
  • Fits 1971-1996 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs — inner tie rod end, left-hand thread.
  • Precision-machined stud and taper ensure correct steering geometry and a secure fit.
  • High-strength alloy construction resists corrosion and wear for long service life.
  • Restores steering tightness and reduces play to improve vehicle handling and safety.
  • Direct-replacement part for maintenance, repair, or full front-end restoration projects.
  • Easy to install with common hand tools; comes ready for grease or sealed applications.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • jack and jack stands or vehicle lift
  • wheel chocks
  • socket set and ratchet
  • open-end wrenches
  • torque wrench
  • inner tie rod removal tool or adjustable wrench
  • pick or flat screwdriver
  • needle-nose pliers
  • grease (if applicable)
  • anti-seize compound
  • shop rags
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise vehicle and secure with jack stands, remove the front wheel.
  3. Expose the inner tie rod by removing any steering boot or clamp on the rack end; retain hardware if reusable.
  4. Loosen and remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle, counting or marking the number of turns to preserve alignment as a reference.
  5. Remove the inner tie rod end: use the appropriate inner tie rod tool or adjustable wrench to unthread it from the steering rack.
  6. Compare new part to old for correct length and thread direction (left-hand thread for this unit) and apply anti-seize to threads if desired.
  7. Thread the new inner tie rod onto the steering rack to the factory-specified engagement depth; tighten to the recommended torque.
  8. Reinstall the steering boot and secure clamps; reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and tighten castle nut to spec, installing a new cotter pin if required.
  9. Torque all fasteners to manufacturer specifications, reattach the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to spec.
  10. Perform a basic steering check and take the vehicle for a short road test. Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper toe and reduce tire wear.
