Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to the pinchbolt, ball joint stud, and associated fasteners to ease removal.
- Locate the front lower ball joint on the control arm and remove the pinchbolt nut/bolt securing the ball joint to the control arm.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork. Carefully tap the knuckle if needed to free the stud.
- If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, remove it using the appropriate ball joint press or follow vehicle-specific removal steps. For bolt-in styles, remove mounting bolts.
- Prepare the mating surfaces and position the new ball joint into the control arm. Install fasteners finger-tight to align components.
- Torque the pinchbolt and any mounting bolts to the vehicle manufacturer's specified values using a torque wrench.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
