Front upper ball joint designed for 1987-2016 Ford vehicles, engineered to replace worn factory joints and restore proper steering and suspension geometry. This ball joint secures the control arm to the steering knuckle while allowing smooth pivoting motion under load, maintaining alignment and absorbing road forces. Constructed for corrosion resistance and long life, it helps eliminate play, reduce vibration and uneven tire wear, and improve steering response. It is supplied with a 75 mm pinch bolt interface for a direct fit into compatible upper control arms, making it suitable for restoration, maintenance, or performance refresh projects on compatible Ford models.

  • 75 mm pinch bolt (if not supplied) / appropriate replacement hardware
  • Penetrating oil
  • Shop rags
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and block rear wheels.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel to access the suspension.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to mounting fasteners and allow to soak briefly.
  4. Remove the pinch bolt or retaining hardware that secures the upper ball joint to the control arm/knuckle, following vehicle-specific service manual guidance.
  5. Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to disengage the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle. Support the knuckle to avoid stressing brake lines or CV axles.
  6. If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, use a press or appropriate removal tool to extract the old joint. Some applications may unbolt; follow the vehicle-specific method.
  7. Clean the mounting bore and inspect the control arm and knuckle for damage or excessive wear. Replace related components if necessary.
  8. Install the new ball joint into the control arm bore or position it per the application. If pressing, use a press to seat the joint squarely to the specified depth.
  9. Reinstall the pinch bolt and any retaining hardware. Torque all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
  10. Reattach the steering knuckle to the ball joint stud and secure with the castle nut and cotter pin or specified fastener. Torque to spec.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and perform a wheel alignment as recommended after suspension component replacement.
  12. Test drive carefully to confirm proper steering and suspension function and re-torque fasteners if required.
