Inner tie rod end for 1988-2002 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs designed to restore precise steering alignment and reliable vehicle control. This direct-fit inner tie rod end replaces worn or damaged components that cause play, wander, uneven tire wear, or steering vibration. Built from heat-treated steel with corrosion-resistant coating and durable ball-and-socket joint, it provides long-lasting performance and smooth steering feel. Ideal for restoring factory steering geometry during suspension rebuilds or as a maintenance replacement, this part improves steering response, vehicle stability, and safety while being straightforward to install for a DIY mechanic or professional technician.
Features:
- Fits 1988-2002 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs (inner tie rod end, right or left hand thread where applicable).
- Precision-machined steel construction for strength and long service life.
- Ball-and-socket joint design reduces play and restores steering accuracy.
- Corrosion-resistant finish for improved durability in harsh road conditions.
- Direct-fit replacement for factory steering assemblies — no modification required.
- Helps prevent uneven tire wear, steering wander, and vibration.
- Designed for easy installation during suspension repair or full steering system restoration.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1-2 hours
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle with a floor jack and support on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod end where the tie rod connects to the steering rack; apply penetrating oil to fasteners as needed.
- Mark the current position of the outer and inner tie rod relative to each other to preserve alignment, or count the turns when removing to approximate toe settings.
- Loosen and remove the jam nut securing the outer tie rod if required to separate components.
- Use a tie rod separator to disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle (if replacing outer first) or remove any retaining hardware linking the inner tie rod to the rack.
- Use the appropriate inner tie rod removal tool or socket to unthread and remove the old inner tie rod from the steering rack.
- Compare the new part to the removed unit for correct length and thread direction. Apply thread locker or grease if recommended by the vehicle service manual.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the steering rack to the original position (or to the same number of turns counted during removal). Tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
- Reassemble the outer tie rod and jam nut, set initial toe by reversing your marks or using the counted turns, and torque all fasteners to specification.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure correct steering geometry and tire wear prevention.
