Outer tie rod end (right/left hand) designed for 1999-2007 Chevrolet and GMC 2WD vehicles with rack-and-pinion steering (excludes crew cab models). This precision-forged replacement restores proper steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps maintain accurate wheel alignment. Built for durability and reliable performance, it provides a secure connection between the steering rack and the steering knuckle to ensure responsive handling and safer driving. Ideal for suspension restoration, routine maintenance, or as a direct replacement during axle or steering repairs.
Features:
- Fitment: 1999-2007 Chevrolet & GMC 2WD models with rack-and-pinion steering (excluding crew cab models).
- Direct-fit outer tie rod end for right or left hand application, replaces worn or damaged units.
- Durable forged construction and corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Restores steering precision, reduces play and vibration, and helps maintain wheel alignment.
- Easy-to-install design compatible with standard steering components; ideal for restoration or maintenance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle and mark the position of the jam nut and the tie rod end’s threads to preserve alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and remove the cotter pin and castle nut (if equipped) securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid excessive hammering to prevent damage.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns as noted during marking, then remove the old unit.
- Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position, hand-tighten the jam nut, and seat the ball stud into the steering knuckle.
- Install and torque the castle nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification and secure with a new cotter pin if required. Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end.
- If the new tie rod end has a grease fitting, apply grease using a grease gun until fresh grease is visible.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to specification, and perform a preliminary steering check.
- Because small changes in steering geometry can occur, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper tire wear and handling.
