Direct-fit idler arm designed for steering systems on 1999–2019 Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC trucks and SUVs. This idler arm replaces worn or loose steering pivots to restore proper alignment and reduce steering play. Sold as the idler arm only — it does not include the frame bracket or any hydraulic hose — so it mounts to your vehicle's existing bracket (or an optional bracket sold separately). Built for durability with a sealed pivot and heavy-duty construction, it helps maintain precise steering geometry, improves handling feel, and extends the life of tie rods and the center link.
Features:
- Fits 1999–2019 Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC trucks and SUVs (verify exact year/model fitment before purchase).
- Idler arm only — does not include frame bracket or hose; compatible bracket available separately (QIA-80043).
- Heavy-duty construction with a sealed pivot to resist wear and contamination for longer service life.
- Restores steering alignment and reduces play to improve vehicle handling and tire wear.
- Direct-replacement design for an easy swap using factory mounting points and hardware.
- Ideal for restoration or maintenance when the original idler arm shows looseness, noise, or uneven tire wear.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and block rear wheels.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the side of the idler arm if access is improved by doing so.
- Locate the idler arm and inspect the frame bracket. Confirm you have the existing bracket installed or obtain the compatible bracket (QIA-80043) if needed — this product does NOT include the bracket.
- Apply penetrating oil to mounting nuts and ball-stud fasteners. Remove any cotter pins or retaining hardware from the idler arm ball stud(s).
- Use a socket or wrench to remove the idler arm mounting nuts from the frame bracket and the ball-stud nut securing the idler arm to the center link.
- Separate the idler arm ball stud from the center link using a ball joint separator or a pickle fork and a hammer, taking care not to damage surrounding components.
- Remove the old idler arm from the bracket. If the bracket is being reused, clean mounting surfaces and compare the new idler arm to the old unit for orientation and fit.
- Install the new idler arm into the bracket and loosely install mounting hardware. Reconnect the ball stud to the center link and hand-thread the nut.
- Tighten all mounting and ball-stud nuts to the manufacturer's specified torque values (refer to the factory service manual for exact torque specs). Install new cotter pins where required.
- Lower the vehicle and road-test at low speed to check steering feel. After a short test drive, recheck mounting hardware torque.
- Have a professional alignment performed after idler arm replacement to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
