Outer tie rod end for 2001–2009 Ford, Mazda, and Mercury vehicles (right or left hand) with a 16mm thread at the housing end — fitment through 06/04/2009. This replacement tie rod end secures the steering linkage to the steering knuckle, maintaining alignment and precise steering control. Built for durability and reliable performance, it restores proper steering feel, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for worn or damaged outer tie rod ends, it simplifies suspension maintenance and restoration.
Features:
  • Fitment: 2001–2009 Ford, Mazda, and Mercury models — outer tie rod end, right or left hand (16mm thread at housing end to 06/04/2009).
  • Direct-fit replacement for worn or damaged outer tie rod ends to restore steering accuracy.
  • 16mm threaded housing end compatible with specified steering linkages.
  • Constructed for durability to resist wear from road and steering loads.
  • Reduces steering play and vibration, helping prevent uneven tire wear.
  • Easy-to-install design suitable for routine suspension maintenance and restoration projects.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Lug wrench or impact gun
  • Wrenches or socket set (including 16mm and tie rod end nut size)
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Adjustable wrench or pliers
  • Torque wrench
  • Grease (if applicable) and rag
  • Marker or paint pen
  • Hammer (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, set parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, then raise the vehicle with a jack and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Locate the outer tie rod end connecting the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod. Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the tie rod shaft with a marker or count the turns to preserve alignment.
  4. Loosen the jam nut at the inner tie rod connection (if applicable) but do not remove it.
  5. Remove the castle nut or retaining nut at the tie rod end-to-knuckle connection. Use a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. A light hammer tap may help release it.
  6. Unthread the outer tie rod end from the tie rod shaft, counting turns or matching the mark you made to maintain approximate toe alignment.
  7. Thread the replacement outer tie rod end onto the tie rod shaft to the marked position or the same number of turns as removed. Tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end if present.
  8. Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle and secure with the supplied nut. Torque to the vehicle manufacturer's specification and install a new cotter pin if required.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
  10. Because toe alignment can be affected, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
