- Restores steering precision and alignment, reducing play and improving handling.
- Durable construction resists wear and corrosion for long-term reliability.
- Direct-replacement part for suspension repair and vehicle restoration projects.
- Easy to install with basic steering/suspension tools; designed for OEM-style replacement.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, set the parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the vehicle with a jack, and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod and outer tie rod connection. Use a marker to mark the position of the outer tie rod on the steering rack and on the tie rod for reference.
- Loosen and remove the cotter pin and castle nut (or excess fastener) securing the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle. Separate the outer tie rod from the knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Count the turns or note the length of engagement of the outer tie rod on the inner tie rod to preserve alignment during reassembly.
- Remove the retaining nut or clamp securing the inner tie rod to the steering rack. Use the appropriate inner tie rod removal tool (spline socket or special tool) to unthread and remove the old inner tie rod from the rack.
- Compare the new inner tie rod to the old unit to ensure correct length and 87mm outer thread compatibility. Apply anti-seize or light grease to threads if recommended.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the steering rack to the manufacturer-specified torque. Reattach any retaining clamps or nuts and torque to spec.
- Reinstall the outer tie rod onto the new inner tie rod using the previously recorded turns/engagement. Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and tighten the castle nut to the specified torque, installing a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specification.
- It is highly recommended to have a professional wheel alignment performed after installing steering components to ensure proper toe and overall alignment.
