Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen the wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle and remove the cotter pin and castle nut (if present).
- Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork; avoid damaging the boot.
- Mark or measure the distance or count the turns from the jam nut to the tie rod end to preserve alignment settings.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and unthread the old outer tie rod end.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod the same number of turns or to the measured position.
- Reinstall the tie rod end into the steering knuckle, torque the nut to factory specification, and insert a new cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the jam nut to secure the assembly and apply grease if the part has a grease fitting.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to specification, and take the vehicle for a professional wheel alignment.
