Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a jack, and support it securely on jack stands.
- Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod assembly.
- Locate the outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle and mark the position of the old tie rod on the inner tie rod or count the number of exposed threads to preserve alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and then loosen the nut securing the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle, but do not fully remove yet.
- Use a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; remove the securing nut and take off the old tie rod end.
- Unscrew the old outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod, noting the thread engagement to match the new part for alignment.
- Screw the new outer right-hand tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the pre-marked position or the same number of threads as removed, then tighten the jam nut to the specified torque.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut or retaining nut, and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. If equipped with a cotter pin, insert and bend it to secure.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Check steering wheel position and verify approximate alignment. It is strongly recommended to perform a professional wheel alignment after installation to ensure proper toe settings and prevent premature tire wear.
