Instructions:
- Remove the old weatherstrip and windlace: gently pry trim from the groove using a trim tool or flat-head screwdriver, working slowly to avoid damaging metal or trim.
- Clean the groove and surrounding surfaces thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol or a degreaser; remove old adhesive, dirt, and rust to ensure proper adhesion and seating.
- Dry-fit the new weatherstrip pieces to confirm correct length and orientation. Identify any areas that require trimming before adhesive application.
- If adhesive is recommended for your application, apply a thin, even bead of automotive weatherstrip adhesive to the groove or back of the weatherstrip per adhesive manufacturer instructions.
- Insert the windlace into the weatherstrip groove (if separate) by feeding it into the trim groove and seating it fully. Use pliers or a blunt tool to guide the windlace without cutting it.
- Seat the weatherstrip into the groove, working from one end to the other and pressing firmly so the seal fully engages the trim groove. Use a seam roller or rubber mallet wrapped in cloth to press sections evenly where needed.
- Trim any excess material with a utility knife or scissors, leaving a clean butt joint at seams or overlap per original configuration.
- Allow adhesive to cure per the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended time before closing doors or exposing the area to moisture. Recheck seal fit and make minor adjustments if needed after curing.
