Complete weather sealing solution for restoring vent and tailgate fit on 1981 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup models. This 2-piece vent seal kit with tailgate seal replaces worn, cracked rubber to stop water intrusion, reduce wind noise, and restore factory fitment. Made for durability and easy installation, the kit helps preserve the cab interior and tailgate components while improving overall vehicle weatherproofing.
Features:
- Fitment: 1981 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup models (vent seals and tailgate seal).
- Includes 2-piece vent seals plus matching tailgate seal for full weatherproof restoration.
- Made from durable EPDM-style rubber for long-lasting resistance to weather, ozone, and UV.
- Restores factory fit to prevent water leaks, reduce wind noise, and protect interior trim.
- Simple retrofit design — trims to fit where needed and installs with adhesive or existing clips.
- Ideal for restoration or routine maintenance to maintain original sealing performance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground and work in a dry, shaded area.
- Remove old vent seals and tailgate seal: open vent windows and/or tailgate and carefully pry out retaining clips or screws and peel away deteriorated rubber.
- Clean all mounting channels and mating surfaces with rubbing alcohol or an appropriate cleaner until free of adhesive residue, dirt, and oil; allow to dry.
- Test-fit each new seal to confirm orientation and any trimming required; mark trim lines with masking tape.
- If adhesive is used, apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the channel or seal flange per adhesive instructions.
- Press the new vent seals into the channel firmly, working from one end to the other; use masking tape to hold seals in position while adhesive sets if needed.
- Install the tailgate seal by aligning it around the tailgate perimeter; trim excess with a utility knife and seat the seal into the channel, securing with clips or adhesive as applicable.
- Reinstall any retainers, screws, or hardware previously removed and verify proper operation of vents, windows, and tailgate.
- Allow adhesive to cure per manufacturer recommendations (typically 24 hours) before exposing to water or rigorous use.
- Perform a final inspection for gaps and test for leaks or wind noise; make minor adjustments as necessary.
