Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-45 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface and open the door fully. Work in a clean, dry area.
- Carefully remove the old weatherstrip: use a trim tool or flat screwdriver to pry out fasteners or the molded lip; remove any clips or retained pieces.
- Clean the sealing channel and surrounding surfaces thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or an appropriate solvent to remove old adhesive, dirt and residue. Allow to dry.
- Test-fit the new DWL 1130 80 seal along the door edge to confirm orientation and length. Trim excess if necessary, leaving a small allowance for compression.
- If adhesive is required, apply a thin bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the channel or the seal’s mounting surface per adhesive manufacturer instructions.
- Starting at one end, press the new weatherstrip firmly into the channel, working along the length and ensuring the molded profile seats evenly. Use masking tape to hold sections in place while adhesive sets if needed.
- Pay special attention to corners and door-latch areas — properly seat the seal so the door closes without binding.
- Allow adhesive to cure for the recommended time before removing any tape and closing the door. Check for even compression and a continuous seal around the door perimeter.
- Perform a final inspection for leaks and noise by closing the door and checking alignment; adjust or trim small areas if necessary.
