Windshield Weatherstrip Seal with a built-in trim groove (WCR 848) is engineered to secure lockstrip-style windshields, create a reliable watertight barrier, and restore factory fit and finish. The precision-molded profile holds the chrome or stainless lockstrip tightly, cushions the glass to reduce vibration and wind noise, and resists ozone and UV degradation for long-lasting performance. Ideal for windshield restoration or replacement projects where a dependable seal and easy installation are required.

  • Socket set / screwdrivers (for trim removal)
  • Urethane adhesive and caulking gun (if re-bonding windshield)
  • Soapy water or rubber lubricant
  • Clean rags and solvent (isopropyl alcohol recommended)
  • Gloves and safety glasses
  • Masking tape
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface and protect surrounding trim and paint with masking tape and drop cloths. Wear safety gear.
  2. Remove exterior trim and the old lockstrip carefully per vehicle-specific procedures. If windshield removal is required, follow manufacturer guidelines or seek professional help.
  3. Cut and remove the old weatherstrip. Clean the pinch weld, glass edge, and channel thoroughly of old adhesive, dirt, and corrosion using solvent and rags. Allow to dry.
  4. Test-fit the new WCR 848 weatherstrip around the windshield opening to confirm orientation and fit. Trim ends only if necessary for a perfect butt joint.
  5. Lightly lubricate the weatherstrip bead or windshield flange with soapy water or a recommended rubber lubricant to aid installation.
  6. Seat the new weatherstrip onto the windshield flange or into the vehicle channel, aligning the trim groove where the lockstrip will run.
  7. Position and press the lockstrip into the trim groove and into the pinch weld/channel so the trim locks the bead in place. Use consistent pressure around the perimeter to fully engage the lockstrip.
  8. If the windshield was removed, apply urethane adhesive per adhesive manufacturer instructions and reinstall the windshield. If sealing without full removal, verify bead seating and use recommended adhesive where needed.
  9. Allow adhesive/urethane to cure per manufacturer times before driving. Inspect for proper seating and test for leaks after cure.
  10. If unsure at any step or for vehicles with bonded windshields, consult a professional installer to ensure safety and a correct seal.
