Replacement idler arm designed for 1967-1970 Ford and Mercury vehicles equipped with power steering. This heavy-duty steering idler arm supports proper steering geometry by securing and aligning the steering linkage, reducing play and ensuring predictable handling.   • Pitman/idler arm puller or ball joint separator
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if applicable) and rag
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and block rear wheels.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands.
  3. Locate the idler arm on the passenger side frame rail connected to the center link/drag link.
  4. Apply penetrating oil to mounting bolts and nut threads; allow time to soak if rusted.
  5. Remove the nut securing the idler arm stud to the center link using the appropriate socket or wrench.
  6. Use a pitman/idler arm puller or ball joint separator to detach the idler arm stud from the center link.
  7. Unbolt the idler arm mounting bolts from the frame and remove the old idler arm.
  8. Position the new idler arm in place, align mounting holes, and install mounting bolts finger-tight.
  9. Attach the idler arm stud to the center link and hand-tighten the castle nut or retaining nut per vehicle specifications.
  10. Torque the idler arm mounting bolts and stud nut to factory torque values using a torque wrench.
  11. If applicable, install cotter pin or other locking hardware, and apply grease to fittings.
  12. Lower the vehicle, test-drive at low speed to confirm steering feel, and re-check torque on mounting hardware.
