Front lower ball joint for 1971-1995 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs (right or left hand). This heavy-duty replacement ball joint secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining proper wheel alignment, steering response, and suspension geometry. Designed for durability and consistent performance, it restores factory fit and function to worn or damaged suspension systems, reducing play and preventing uneven tire wear. Ideal for restoration, routine maintenance, or performance rebuilds where reliable steering and suspension control are critical.
Features:
  • Fits 1971-1995 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs — front lower, right or left hand application
  • Precision-machined housing and hardened stud for accurate fit and long service life
  • Secures lower control arm to steering knuckle to maintain alignment and steering stability
  • Reduces play and vibration, improving handling and preventing premature tire wear
  • Direct replacement for worn or damaged OE ball joints — ideal for restoration and repairs
  • Easy to install with common suspension tools; sold as single unit for right or left side replacement
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 1-2 hours per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Socket and wrench set
  • Ball joint press or C-clamp with adapters
  • Hammer and punch
  • Torque wrench
  • Pry bar
  • Penetrating oil
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to the ball joint stud and mounting fasteners. Remove any cotter pin and loosen the castle nut on the ball joint stud but do not fully remove yet.
  4. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or by gently striking the knuckle with a hammer while supporting the control arm. Remove the castle nut and detach the stud from the knuckle.
  5. Remove fasteners or retaining ring securing the ball joint to the control arm. Use a ball joint press or C-clamp with proper adapters to press the old ball joint out of the control arm.
  6. Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or corrosion. Prepare the new ball joint by aligning it with the control arm bore.
  7. Press the new ball joint into the control arm using the ball joint press or C-clamp and adapters until fully seated. Reinstall any retaining ring or fasteners if applicable.
  8. Insert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut, and torque to the manufacturer's specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  9. Reassemble any suspension components removed, reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
  10. Perform a wheel alignment after installation to ensure proper toe and camber settings and to prevent uneven tire wear.
