Front inner left-hand tie rod end designed for 1983–1987 Ford passenger vehicles to restore steering connection and alignment geometry. This precision-machined inner tie rod end features an M20 x 1.5P right-hand thread to match OE steering components, providing a secure connection between the steering rack and outer tie rod. Built to resist wear and road shock, it helps maintain accurate steering response, reduce play, and extend the service life of the steering system. Easy to install with common hand tools, it’s a reliable replacement part for restoration or routine maintenance.
Features:
- Fitment: 1983–1987 Ford vehicles – front, inner tie rod end, left hand position.
- Thread spec: M20 x 1.5P right‑hand thread to match OE rack and steering components.
- Function: Restores proper steering linkage connection and alignment geometry to reduce play and improve handling.
- Construction: Precision-machined stud and housing with durable corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Performance: Designed to withstand road shock and vibration while maintaining tight steering response.
- Ease of use: Direct-fit replacement for simpler installation during steering or suspension service.
- Application: Ideal for restoration, maintenance, or replacement when steering play or uneven tire wear is present.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45 minutes - 1.5 hours
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, set the parking brake, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the affected side.
- Locate the inner tie rod end on the steering rack and inspect surrounding components. Apply penetrating oil to nuts and threads if corroded.
- Mark the position of the outer tie rod relative to the inner tie rod or measure the length from a fixed point to preserve toe alignment before disassembly.
- Loosen and remove the tie rod end jam nut at the inner/outer tie rod junction to free the inner tie rod.
- Remove the cotter pin (if equipped) and loosen the castle nut or retaining fastener on the tie rod stud. Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the stud from the steering knuckle or drag link as applicable.
- Unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack (counter-hold the rack if needed). Keep track of any washers or seals and discard damaged components.
- Compare the new part threads and length to the removed unit to confirm match. Apply a light coat of grease to the threads if recommended by vehicle service instructions.
- Install the new inner tie rod into the rack and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. Reattach the outer tie rod and tighten the jam nut to lock the adjustment.
- Reinstall the tie rod stud into the knuckle, torque the castle nut to spec and insert a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Because steering geometry can change during tie rod replacement, have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure correct toe settings and prevent uneven tire wear.
