Outer tie rod end (right/left hand) designed to replace worn steering outer tie rods on 1988–2002 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC front steering assemblies. This high-strength replacement restores precise steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps maintain proper tire wear. Features a durable forged/stamped steel housing, corrosion-resistant finish and a sealed ball joint for long service life. Ideal for steering system maintenance, collision repair or full suspension restoration, providing reliable, road-ready steering performance.
Features:
- Fitment: Fits 1988–2002 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC models requiring outer tie rod end, right/left hand (11/16-18 UNF thread).
- Right/left hand orientation with 11/16-18 UNF thread to match factory steering linkage.
- Durable steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long-lasting performance.
- Sealed ball joint reduces contamination and extends service life while maintaining smooth articulation.
- Restores proper steering alignment, reduces play and improves tire wear and vehicle handling.
- Direct-replacement design for easy installation in restoration, maintenance or repair applications.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen lug nuts on the front wheel (do not remove), then lift the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle and mark the position of the jam nut and tie rod threads with a marker to preserve the existing alignment as a starting point.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod/adjusting sleeve. Count or measure exposed threads/turns to replicate toe setting when installing the new part.
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut or retaining fastener on the tie rod end that attaches to the steering knuckle. Use a tie rod puller or separator to free the tapered stud from the knuckle.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod/adjusting sleeve the same number of turns as originally noted. Remove the old part.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod/adjusting sleeve to the same position or thread count as the removed unit. Ensure right/left hand orientation and thread engagement are correct.
- Install the tapered stud into the steering knuckle, torque the castle nut to factory specification and secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end to the specified torque.
- If the part has a grease fitting, grease the joint per recommendations. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Because exact toe alignment is critical, have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
