  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork

  • Pliers
  • Marker or paint pen
  • Measuring tape or ruler
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle with a jack and secure with jack stands, then remove the wheel.
  3. Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle connected to the steering arm.
  4. Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the threaded inner tie rod with a marker to preserve alignment as a starting point.
  5. Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod that secures the outer tie rod end (do not remove completely).
  6. Remove the cotter pin (if equipped) and loosen the castellated nut or retaining nut on the tie rod end stud.
  7. Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork, then unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod.
  8. Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position, then tighten the jam nut to secure the assembly.
  9. Insert the new tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's torque specification, and install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque the lug nuts to specification, and check steering function.
  11. Because exact alignment can shift, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure correct toe settings and prevent tire wear.
