Direct-fit replacement outer tie rod end for rear steering (4WS) on select 2002–2005 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. Designed to restore precise steering geometry, this tie rod end secures the outer steering linkage to reduce play, improve tracking, and prevent premature tire wear. Constructed with hardened steel and a sealed bearing/ball joint, it delivers long-term durability and reliable performance under daily driving and towing loads. Easy to install for DIY mechanics or professional technicians, it is ideal for restoring factory steering feel and safety on vehicles equipped with four-wheel steering systems.
Features:
- Fitment: 2002–2005 Chevrolet and GMC models with rear four-wheel steering (outer tie rod end, right or left hand).
- Durable construction: hardened steel stud and housing for strength under load.
- Sealed ball joint: factory-style seal to retain lubrication and keep out contaminants.
- Function: secures outer steering linkage to reduce play, improve alignment, and prevent irregular tire wear.
- Ease of use: direct-fit replacement designed to match OE dimensions and mounting points.
- Application: ideal for restoration, maintenance, or replacement of worn steering components.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock wheels. Loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the rear of the vehicle and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel to access the rear steering knuckle and tie rod.
- Locate the outer tie rod end and mark the position of the jam nut and threaded sleeve relative to the tie rod for reference to preserve alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod sleeve. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut securing the tie rod end to the knuckle.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Avoid excessive hammering to protect threads.
- Unthread the tie rod end from the sleeve the number of turns noted during marking. Remove the old tie rod end.
- Install the new tie rod end by threading it onto the sleeve to the marked position. If supplied with factory-style tapered stud, insert into the knuckle and tighten the castle nut to the vehicle manufacturer torque specification.
- Install a new cotter pin if applicable and bend to secure. Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end to lock the adjustment.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Because tie rod replacement affects wheel alignment, have a professional four-wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
