Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, jack up the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands, then remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod on the steering rack; mark the position of the outer tie rod on the threaded shaft to preserve alignment settings.
- Loosen the jam nut on the outer tie rod and separate the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod removal tool or pickle fork.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod and note the number of turns or count threads removed for reassembly reference.
- Use an inner tie rod removal tool or appropriate wrench to loosen and remove the inner tie rod from the steering rack.
- Clean the tapers and threads at the steering rack and inspect the rack boot; replace boot if damaged.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the steering rack to the original depth or per manufacturer torque specs; tighten to the specified torque.
- Reinstall the outer tie rod onto the inner tie rod to the previously noted thread position and tighten the jam nut to secure.
- Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and torque the nut to specification; install a new cotter pin if used.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and prevent uneven tire wear.
