Outer tie rod end for 2005–2012 Ford, Mazda, and Mercury vehicles, designed to replace worn steering linkage and restore precise steering control. This threaded outer tie rod end (compatible with inner-end 14mm thread) fits both right and left-hand orientations and is built to secure the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod while resisting wear and road shock. It provides reliable steering response, improves alignment stability, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Durable construction and a direct-fit design make this an effective restoration or maintenance part for steering and suspension systems.
Features:
  • Fits 2005–2012 Ford, Mazda, and Mercury models (outer tie rod end, right/left hand; inner-end thread 14mm).
  • Direct-fit replacement for worn outer tie rod ends to restore steering precision and alignment.
  • 14mm inner-end thread for compatibility with factory-style inner tie rods.
  • Durable materials and protective coatings resist corrosion and road wear.
  • Helps prevent uneven tire wear and reduces steering play and vibration.
  • Designed for straightforward installation with common hand tools—ideal for restoration and routine maintenance.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands or vehicle lift
  • Wheel chocks
  • Lug wrench or impact gun
  • Appropriate wrenches or sockets (typically 17mm/19mm depending on vehicle)
  • Adjustable wrench or pliers
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork (ball joint separator)
  • Torque wrench
  • Tape measure or alignment tools
  • Penetrating oil (optional)
  • Marker or chalk
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle where it connects to the inner tie rod and steering arm.
  4. Mark the position of the old tie rod relative to the inner tie rod or measure and record the exposed thread length and number of turns to preserve toe alignment.
  5. Loosen the jam nut that secures the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod. Do not remove it yet.
  6. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut on the tie rod end stud. Use penetrating oil if components are corroded.
  7. Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork. Avoid excessive damage to surrounding components.
  8. Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the recorded number of turns (or to the mark) and remove the old part.
  9. Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position or thread count used earlier. Tighten the jam nut against the new outer tie rod end.
  10. Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specified torque, and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
  12. Have a professional alignment performed as soon as possible to ensure proper toe settings and prevent premature tire wear.
