Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle and loosen the jam nut securing it to the inner tie rod.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and unfasten the castle or hex nut holding the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod puller or a pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Tap gently with a hammer if needed.
- Count the number of exposed threads or measure distance from a fixed point to the end of the inner tie rod to preserve alignment when installing the new part.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod and remove it.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the recorded position (or match the original thread count), then tighten the jam nut to secure.
- Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, torque the nut to manufacturer specification, and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure correct steering geometry and tire wear.
