Outer tie rod end for 1965-1970 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and passenger cars. This replacement outer tie rod end restores proper steering linkage connection between the steering rack/center link and the steering knuckle. It secures the tie rod assembly, reduces play and vibration, and helps maintain accurate wheel alignment for safer, more predictable steering. Built to withstand road loads and provide long service life, this part is ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension repairs to return classic Chevrolets and GMCs to factory steering performance.
Features:
  • Fits 1965-1970 Chevrolet and GMC models (outer tie rod end, right or left hand applications).
  • Durable steel construction with protective coating for corrosion resistance.
  • Restores steering precision by eliminating play in the outer tie rod connection.
  • Easy-to-install direct replacement for worn or damaged outer tie rod ends.
  • Helps prevent premature tire wear and improves vehicle handling and safety.
  • Suitable for restoration projects and routine maintenance on vintage Chevy/GMC vehicles.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Lug wrench
  • Wrenches or socket set (size dependent on vehicle)
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Measuring tape or alignment gauge
  • Penetrating oil (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and secure wheels with chocks.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts, raise vehicle with a jack, and support on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle. Apply penetrating oil if the castle nut or cotter pin is corroded.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  5. Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork. Avoid damaging rubber boots on other components.
  6. Measure and record the exposed length of the inner/outer tie rod assembly or count the turns while unthreading to preserve alignment.
  7. Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod. Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner rod to the same length or turn count you recorded.
  8. Insert the new tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut, and torque to factory specification. Install a new cotter pin.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
  10. Check and adjust front wheel alignment as necessary. A professional alignment is recommended after replacing steering components.
