Outer tie rod end (right hand) for 1971–1996 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. This replacement part secures the steering linkage to the steering knuckle, translating steering wheel motion into accurate wheel direction while maintaining proper alignment and reducing play. Built to meet OE-style fitment and function, it restores steering responsiveness, improves safety, and helps prevent premature tire wear. Durable materials and precise ball-and-socket construction deliver reliable performance and long service life, making it ideal for routine maintenance, suspension rebuilds, or full restoration projects.
Features:
  • Fits 1971–1996 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs — outer tie rod end, right hand thread
  • OE-style design for direct fit and proper steering geometry
  • Durable ball-and-socket joint reduces play and improves handling
  • Corrosion-resistant finish and hardened stud for long service life
  • Easy to install for technicians and experienced DIYers; restores steering feel and alignment
  • Use for steering system restoration, maintenance, or as a replacement for worn components
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes (per side)
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Lug wrench
  • Wrenches/sockets (commonly 3/4", 13/16" or metric equivalents)
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if applicable) and shop rags
  • Alignment service equipment or access to a professional alignment
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, then raise the vehicle and support with jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Locate the outer tie rod end where it connects to the steering knuckle and the inner tie rod/steering rack.
  4. Mark or measure the number of exposed threads or distance from a reference on the inner tie rod to the outer tie rod end for approximate alignment reassembly.
  5. Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end stud and jam nut if corroded. Loosen the jam nut securing the outer tie rod end to the inner tie rod.
  6. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut on the tie rod stud. Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid damaging the boot.
  7. Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod, counting turns or using the earlier measurement to retain approximate toe setting.
  8. Screw the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the recorded position. Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end.
  9. Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, install and torque the nut to the vehicle specification, and secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
  11. Because precise toe alignment is critical, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation.
